Murals – das sind Wandgemälde im öffentlichen Raum. Ihre aufwändige Gestaltung braucht Zeit. Deswegen entstehen sie meist legal. Die Macher kommen nicht unbedingt aus der Graffiti-Szene. “Street-Credibility” ist für sie nicht entscheidend. Sie nutzen die Fassade als Leinwand für ihre Kunst: draußen, kostenlos und für jeden zugänglich. Murals sind eine Alternative zur Präsentation in Museen und Galerien. Die Straße kuratiert sich selbst.

Murals – these are murals in public spaces. Their elaborate design takes time. That’s why they usually arise legally. The makers don’t necessarily come from the graffiti scene. “Street credibility” is not decisive for them. They use the facade as a canvas for their art: outside, free and accessible to everyone. Murals are an alternative to presentation in museums and galleries. The street curates itself.
